Friday August 3rd
On Fridays there is a special assembly for the whole school. Each teacher gives out awards. Certificates are given for good behaviour, for effort with school work and a $10 voucher is given to spend at the shop, to someone in each class that has worn their uniform each day throughout the week. The Principal gives out prizes for hard working students, those that have shown leadership or effort, and students who are attending school regularly.
Today the newsletter had the names of the eight students who will travel to Carey in Melbourne for a week-long visit. The excitement when those picked found out, was terrific. What a wonderful life changing opportunity lies ahead for these eight students. The simple things we take for granted can be awe inspiring, like riding on an escalator, seeing traffic, going to the beach, and seeing a city from the top of Eureka Tower.
I asked one of the students today what he would most like to do when he is in Melbourne. His answer was “shop at Myer”. I asked had he been to Melbourne, and he answered “No”, he had seen the Myer adds on TV!!
These incentives, awards, vouchers and the Carey trip have helped change the culture of the school. Gradually, sound work habits are developing, and the positive attitude towards school and learning is building. I am continually hearing from others ( who have taught or been to remote schools), that Robinson River School has great students, a high attendance rate and a positive attitude towards learning.
A reputation well deserved and one of which they should be proud.
