Walking at sunset

Tuesday 7th August

It was a joy teaching today, probably because much of it involved sitting in the sunshine or under a tree working with small groups of children. The teaching part went well but it is the conversations I love.  Two of the older girls are counting the days until they travel to Melbourne as part of the Carey program. They will be hosted by Carey students as they are shown the sights of Melbourne. For the first time they will mix with other children outside Robinson River. We talked of what they might see, how cold it will be, what they will need to wear and who they will meet. I wonder who gets the bigger shock, the Carey students visiting here or the Robinson River students visiting Melbourne. ??
After school, the staff seem to all be on some sort of a fitness plan… I was invited to partake of  several different options. Would you like to come to the gym? Gym!! Here ?? Well, a group of women meet daily in the crèche and exercise, walk, or do pilates together. A few of the younger men decided to run out to the airport! No mean feat I can tell you. David and I decided to stick with our daily walk to the stockyards (out in that direction, but not quite so far).  On our return the sun was setting and our shadows cast long Etruscan figures across the red road. The surrounding hills were bathed in an orange glow…..a mob of cattle wandered through the long grass…… stunning.
